<DIV class=ecxMsoNormal style="MARGIN-BOTTOM: 10pt"><FONT face=Arial size=2><SPAN style="FONT-SIZE: 10pt; FONT-FAMILY: Arial">Ms. Garcia, the magnet coordinator at Portola HG Magnet Middle School, was just informed that, due to the budget crisis, the District is planning to cut her magnet coordinator position and that of the North Hollywood HG Magnet Coordinator to half-time (50%). <STRONG><B><FONT face=Arial><SPAN style="FONT-FAMILY: Arial">As you know, this would be devastating to our programs.</SPAN></FONT></B></STRONG> These women serve as dean, counselor and curriculum coordinator for our children, as well as general problem-solver and advocate. On top of this, the LAUSD is also cutting Assistant Principal positions at most schools; if the magnet coordinators are cut, it would be extremely difficult to find an administrator with whom parents could speak. Our children will be lost in the shuffle!</SPAN></FONT></DIV>
<DIV class=ecxMsoNormal style="MARGIN-BOTTOM: 10pt"><FONT face=Arial size=2><SPAN style="FONT-SIZE: 10pt; FONT-FAMILY: Arial">For this reason we are asking North Hollywood HG Magnet parents to join us in lobbying LAUSD not to make these cuts. While it may not work, we want them to know there is a vocal constituency of highly gifted families that demand LAUSD support them and provide an appropriate education for their children. Encourage your teachers to support us as well!</SPAN></FONT></DIV>
